Qpets Automatic Pet Feeder

Automatic pet feeders, why do you need one? Ask yourself this; have you ever found yourself caught in a traffic jam and worrying about your cats waiting to be fed at home? Ever been stuck in an airport or delayed on vacation, stalled in a meeting, or simply unable to get home in a timely manner to feed your cat? If you’re nodding yes to any of the above questions- Qpets Automatic Pet Feeder supplies the answer. When you find yourself behind schedule and you know your cats are home waiting for their food, turn to Qpets for the solution.

Is Qpets Automatic Pet Feeder easy to program? I found it to be a bit challenging at first. The Large Capacity Automatic Pet Feeder comes with a book of instructions that is a bit lengthy. I am well-known to be electronically and technologically-challenged, so after three failed attempts, I handed off the unit to three other people to see how they would do. (My face is red) when I admit; they got it on the second try!  But, I persevered and now the unit is working smoothly on schedule, rolling out the meals for my cats on a routine basis. And if you know cats, you understand they crave routine in their lives.

Qpets Automatic Pet Feed comes with your choice of feeding cycles. You can either program the unit to deliver feedings during a twelve-hour cycle or twenty-four hour cycle. If you like, you can record your voice, or the sound of a can-opener or the popping of cat food cans in the unit. This will play up to three times every feeding.

If you have one or two cats, Qpets makes a smaller unit. It doles out four measured meals a day. Those in a multi-cat home would benefit from the Large Capacity Automatic Pet Feeder. Please note: These feeders are for dry food only- no wet food allowed!

The one feature that quickly got my attention is how noisy the unit is during the first few seconds of distributing the meal. In the first few feedings here at the house when the unit went off- most of the cats scattered. Now, they associate the noise with food and come running right when it starts churning. Another concern is if you are mixing the dry cat food, both small and large kibble, you might end up with more kibble in the tray with the smaller size then you do with the larger kibble, so for cats on strict diets, you would have to measure out how much dry cat food to dump into the feeder beforehand. Once the tray is empty if another feeding is programmed, the feeder dumps kibble down into the food tray. Also, if the unit is on and you remove the food tray, the unit dumps out kibble until the tray is replaced. The unit runs on D-Cell batteries (not included with the unit).

To clean the unit, you only use a damp cloth. You can’t put any part of this unit into your dishwasher. Another way to clean it out would be with compressed air, as the only particles in the feeder are small bits of dry cat food.

Because I am electronically-challenged, I ended up making a small cheat sheet of instructions and mounting this on the side of the feeder. This aids me when I need to make changes in either the feeding time or the portion size. I lose a lot of instruction manuals.

Right now, I have this unit outside on the porch  It effectively calls my barn cats to dinner and they hear it clear out in the pasture (we have five acres).  I love this unit, even in its complexity, it takes a time-consuming chore off my hands and makes it simpler allowing me more time to spend with my family and my cats.
